چکیده

Multicarrier systems suffer from the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAR) of their transmit signal. In order to overcome this issue, peak-power reduction schemes have been developed. One of the most popular technique is selected mapping (SLM). Recently, a variant of SLM for single-antenna systems was proposed. This scheme considers temporally consecutive OFDM frames to achieve a further gain in PAR reduction. In this paper, this idea is extended to multi-antenna (MIMO) systems. Thereby, MIMO point-to-point scenarios as well as MIMO broadcast channels are assessed. For MIMO point-to-point scenarios, a joint spatial and temporal variant of directed SLM is introduced. As directed SLM cannot be applied over the antennas in broadcast scenarios, the combination is done with spatially simplified SLM. Numerical as well as analytical results of both approaches are given. A suited combination of complexity (introduced by SLM) and delay (introduced by constituting hyper frames) can be selected.

Out-of-band Power Reduction in Mimo Ofdm

One of the main disadvantages of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is its large peak-to-average power ratio (PAR). In case of nonlinear power amplification this fact causes undesired out-of-band radiation. In this paper PAR reduction schemes for multiple-antenna OFDM, in particular variants of selected mapping (SLM), are considered. Directed SLM (dSLM), where a joint PAR reducti...

Selective Tone Reservation method for PAPR reduction in SFBC-OFDM systems

The high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and MIMO-OFDM systems reduces the system efficiency. In this paper, an extension of Tone Reservation (TR) method is introduced for PAPR reduction in Space Frequency Block Coded OFDM (SFBC-OFDM) systems. The proposed algorithm is based on a time domain kernel which is added to the signal of the anten...

Peak-to-Average Power Ratio Reduction in Multi-Antenna OFDM via Multiple Signal Representation Spitzenwertreduktion bei Mehrantennen OFDM mittels Mehrfach-Signalrepräsentation

Modern digital communication systems take advantage of the combined application of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and multi-antenna (or multiple-input/multiple-output (MIMO)) systems, often denoted as MIMO OFDM. OFDM is a very popular approach to equalize the temporal intersymbol interferences caused by frequency-selective channels. Using MIMO systems, it is possible to incre...

Directed Selected Mapping for Peak-to-Average Power Ratio Reduction in MIMO OFDM

Peak-to-average power ratio reduction in OFDM using antenna arrays (MIMO OFDM) is considered. In particular, a generalisation of selected mapping (SLM), we call it directed SLM (dSLM), is introduced. It is shown that, in contrast to schemes proposed in literature, dSLM utilises the potential offered by MIMO transmission. As a result, the complementary distribution function of the PAR exhibits a...

Partial Transmit Sequences for Peak-to-Average Power Ratio Reduction in Multiantenna OFDM

The major drawback of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is its high peak-to-average power ratio (PAR), which gets even more substantial if a transmitter with multiple antennas is considered. To overcome this problem, in this paper, the partial transmit sequences (PTS) method—well known for PAR reduction in single antenna systems—is studied for multiantenna OFDM. A directed appro...
